This six-hour course will equip direct service providers with information, resources, and critical advocacy skills to serve human trafficking survivors in a context in which rape crisis crisis are increasingly called upon to assist human trafficking survivors. Survivors often show up with significant recovery and legal advocacy needs that bar them from traditional human trafficking programs and safe housing, yet many advocates may not feel equipped to assist. Advocates also may experience pressure to reproduce service models that do not align with anti-sexual violence practice or values. This training reinforces the need to center survivor choice while offering options and information that meets survivors where they are.
This cohort will present participants with new information, opportunities for skills practices, and a safe, supportive environment that encourages peer learning. All participants will have access to an individual follow up meeting for coaching and support. The following topics will be covered:
Reimagining an Alternative to a Criminal Justice Response
Familial/Caregiver Trafficking: Educating Community and Serving Adult Survivors
Multisite Advocacy
The Big Three: A Roof, Recovery, and a Record
Secondary Resilience: Uncovering our Hidden Weapon Against Burn Out
This training is intended for those working in direct service organizations. Space will be limited to promote a quality learning environment. Prerequisite for this training: Successful completion of the four-hour online learning series: Essential Knowledge for Addressing the Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children in North Carolina. https://learnwithjusticeu.com/csecseries-northcarolina/
