My Name My Voice
Keifer Wainright grew up under the shadow of human trafficking and addiction. As the oldest son of a trafficking victim, he had to become the man of the house at a very young age. His early years were spent learning how to survive and care for his younger siblings while his mother was being trafficked, in active addiction, and emotionally dead and his father was non-existent.
At the same time that he was caring for his family with as much emotional support and physical safety as a child can manage, Keifer also was an honor roll student with perfect attendance and a two-sport athlete into his teen years.
When his mother finally found sobriety and left the life and he was able to try to assimilate into normal teen years, Keifer found a hard road ahead of him. All of that early childhood trauma had left him with over-adaptive coping skills that he was now responsible for reigning in.
Now, after time spent learning about his own story, Keifer is a married father to three amazing kids, four dogs, a bearded dragon, and LOTS of turtles. He still enjoys playing sports when his body allows and coaches his son’s teams. And he spends his time helping children of survivors speak up about their own traumas.
