Rape Prevention Education Coordinator
Families First, Inc
Omar Godwin was raised in the rural communities of Whiteville and Lake Waccamaw North Carolina. He graduated from East Carolina University with his Bachelors of Science in Family and Community Services with a minor in Human Services in May 2009. Godwin then moved to Atlanta, Georgia where he initiated his graduate studies in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, which lead him to a career in Behavioral Health. Godwin worked various leadership roles in the field before being inspired by his social worker mother, Alfredia, who served as a Child Support Supervisor for over three decades in Columbus County to move home and serve his community. Coming home, he then took on the role of Rape Prevention Education Coordinator at Families First, Inc. serving both Bladen and Columbus Counties. There Godwin teaches the evidence based Safe Dates program to 9th grade students in three different school systems (Columbus, Bladen, and Whiteville City Schools). Godwin also leads community engagement and bar outreach for the agency in both Bladen and Columbus counties, while also being a member of the National Human Trafficking Prevention Task Force. Godwin’s first major speaking engagement for NCCASA was at the 2021 North Carolina Sexual Violence Prevention Academy. His mother passed away the day prior to this speaking engagement and he continues to carry on her legacy! He has also been a panelist, moderator, and mentor on various topics both locally and nationally. Lastly, Godwin has made sure the marginalized feel seen and heard in his community.
