SUMMARY:A Courageous Conversation: Reflections and Our Work with Victims of Sexual Violence
DESCRIPTION:This virtual training is intended for any person working or volunteering with victims of sexual violence.  This training will introduce participants to a comprehensive view of sexuality and how our worldview impacts our thoughts, values, and beliefs about sexuality.  During the training you will use a tool called the Courageous Conversations Protocol to examine how your values and beliefs may impact your work with clients.\nThis training is part of a research study. Training participants will be invited to be interviewed about their experience of the training and how the presented material might impact your approach to your work with victims of sexual violence.  Interview participants will receive a $25 VISA e-gift card immediately after the interview. Interviews will occur virtually using Zoom. Training participants are not required to participate in the interview.\nPresenter Bio\nMichael Becketts is a social worker and sexuality educator.  Professionally, he has worked for organizations to that serve to address issues of violence and sexual violence in families and communities. Currently, he is the Director of the Fairfax County Department of Family Services.  In this role he provides leadership over Domestic and Sexual Violence Services for the county.   He is currently working on his dissertation at Widener University where his research is centered on how a helping professional’s worldview – values, beliefs, feelings –  regarding sexuality may impact relationships and outcomes with clients.  He holds a Master of Social Work from the University of Maryland School of Social Work, a Master of Education from Widener University.\n
